Hi, I’m Margaux and it’s great that you have stumbled across Learning with Sunflower Smiles.
I am a South African wife, mom and used-to-be-teacher. I taught grades 5 – 7 Math and English for 7 years until I decided to stop teaching when my second child was born and devote my time to raising my children.
My daughter, Megan, is five and attends a Pre-Primary, while my son, Adam, is now nearly two and is at home with me.
During the last two years, I have spend time reading education blogs and witnessing the huge variety of stimulating activities that can be used to develop children and give them an advantage at school. Although Megan gets a good education and is stimulated at the school where she is now, I have come to realise that she is so eager to learn and explore what is going on around her, that I decided to do some extra, informal stimulation at home. I do not homeschool, but rather add to what she gets at her school through play and discovery.
I am trained as a Remedial Therapist, and therefore am able to use my background knowledge to give my daughter an advantage. Not only will I blog about my home life and Megan’s learnings but I’ll also include what I learnt while teaching older students and tips that can be used.
I have also opened a TeachersPayTeachers store to offer my products and ideas to other teachers.
