I love sharing a useful ESL online tip with other ESL teachers. After teaching ESL for many years, I have discovered some tips that benefit my students during online ESL classes.
One of those things is a Clock manipulative.
I made these clocks while I was studying at university and rarely used them during my teaching career. But… they have been amazing in my online classroom and is definitely a useful tip I want to share.
Why is it a useful ESL Online Tip?
Not only is this clock necessary for teaching time but as my students start to grow in their English language ability, we start comparing the time difference in our countries. I start to include time in their work and ask questions relating to time. For many of my students, it is late afternoon for them when it is morning for me.
I use the clock to show them what time it is in my country and then help them to identify the time in their country. Usually it is only the hour that changes so it is easy for them to use my time vocabulary to say their time.
We use this clock in many situations:
- What time is it?
- What time did you wake up?
- What time do you go to school?
- What time did you eat breakfast?
My students really benefit from using this clock in class.
